On June 28th 1914, Franz Ferdinand, heir to the Austria throne, was assassinated in Sarajevo. This was the cause of why WW1 happened and this is the uniform that Ferdinand was wearing, still stained with blood. This is an important aspect to WW1 as every story has a beginning and most stories about war begin with disagreements or death.

This grenade is The Mk I No. 5 or the Mills Bomb (Named after Sir William Mills). It was made during May in 1915 for the British Army. It had a blast radius of 35 meters (115 feet) yet it was about 3 inches tall! This tells the story of WW1 as this was a big offense move for the British army to attack the opposing team. It killed many as people who were hit by one died from the impact of TNT.

These badges were given to people who not only fought and survived in the war but also helped with supplies and such (munitions factories). There were many different kinds for the many different jobs that were put into the war. These badges identified the people that helped in WW1, without having to utilize uniforms. This tells the story of WW1 as it shows the rewards of contributing to the cause. Not only do they get recognition, they get known that they have served their country, that they have protected their friends, their families and maybe even you.
